We are a metal detecting club in Northeastern Illinois around the Joliet / Chicagoland area. Our club was formed in 1983 and several founding members are still active with the club. Our current enrollment consists of 100 members, which includes several young metal detectorists.
We meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month at 7 pm at the American Legion Hall, located at 2625 Ingalls Ave. Joliet IL, 60435, ph 815-729-2254. You can get directions at the bottom the the page.
At the meetings we have display tables set up for exhibiting members Finds of the Month. Categories include Best Coin, Oldest Coin, Foreign Coin, Jewelry, Tokens, Relics and other categories. Each attending member then votes for the best find of the month in each category and points are awarded to the member that found the item. The meeting is also a great place for members to discuss research techniques and methods, demonstrations of new equipment, how to sessions and general knowledge sharing.
Club activities included club hunts once or twice a month (once a month durng the winter), a club family picnic and Christmas dinner party. The activities at the picnic include a regular club hunt and a seeded hunt for coins and prizes.
We also have raffles, door prize drawings and a 50/50 raffle. Once a year there is a fund raising raffle that helps to finance various club events with major prizes donated by members or manufacturers.
Guests are welcome and are encouraged to join the Will County Historical Research and Recovery Association.
